How to Make a 0% Aperol Spritz - the easy way!

By Carolyn Whiteley, Co-Founder, Seadrift Distillery

There's something about a spritz that just says summer. A big glass, plenty of ice, fresh orange, sunshine and good company. Nowhere in the rules does it say you need alcohol to enjoy it.

Making a brilliant non alcoholic Aperol Spritz at home is easy. The secret is a proper grown up orange aperitif: something with the citrus, bitterness and complexity that makes a spritz feel like a spritz. That's exactly why we created Seadrift Orange Aperitif at our distillery in Brookvale.

Can you make an Aperol Spritz without alcohol?

Yes. To make a non alcoholic Aperol Spritz, fill a wine glass with ice, add 50ml of a non alcoholic orange aperitif such as Seadrift Orange Aperitif, add 60ml of 0% sparkling wine such as Grant Burge 0% and 60ml of soda water, then garnish with an orange wedge. Equal parts, easy to remember, and no alcohol.

The result should still be bright, bittersweet and refreshing, with that unmistakable orange aperitif character that makes you want to sit somewhere sunny and order another. Drinking 0% shouldn't feel like missing out. Quite the opposite.

Non alcoholic Aperol Spritz recipe

Serves: 1 · Prep time: 2 minutes · Glass: large wine glass

Ingredients

  • 50ml Seadrift Orange Aperitif
  • 60ml non alcoholic sparkling wine, well chilled (we like Grant Burge 0%)
  • 60ml soda water
  • 1 wedge of fresh orange
  • Plenty of ice

Method

  1. Fill a large wine glass generously with ice.
  2. Pour in 50ml of Seadrift Orange Aperitif.
  3. Top with 60ml of 0% sparkling wine, then 60ml of soda.
  4. Stir gently once, add a fresh wedge of orange and you're done.

Tip: add the sparkling wine before the soda and stir only once. It keeps the bubbles lively and the orange sitting through the whole glass.

Simple. Refreshing. Very hard not to love.

The 30 second version: no sparkling wine needed

No 0% sparkling in the fridge? No problem.

Pour 50ml of Seadrift Orange Aperitif over ice and top with 120ml of premium tonic or soda. Add a wedge of orange and you've got a refreshing non alcoholic spritz in about 30 seconds. Tonic gives a drier, more bitter finish; soda keeps it light and lets the orange lead.

Perfect for that first drink at the end of the day.

What's the best non alcoholic alternative to Aperol?

Look for a non alcoholic orange aperitif that is bittersweet rather than sweet, with real citrus and a dry finish. Seadrift Orange Aperitif is our Australian take on exactly that style, and it's made for spritzing.

It's distilled in Brookvale on Sydney's Northern Beaches by Seadrift, Australia's first non alcoholic distillery. We build it from real botanicals, including rosemary, juniper, orange, and bitters, to give it the ritual and occasion of a classic aperitif without the alcohol.

  • Alcohol: less than 0.5% ABV

What does a non alcoholic spritz taste like?

A good non alcoholic spritz should taste bright, bittersweet and dry, not like orange cordial with bubbles. You want lift from the citrus, a little bitterness and enough complexity to make you slow down and enjoy it.

Seadrift Orange Aperitif has been created with that balance in mind: fresh orange and citrus up front, gentle bittersweet notes through the middle and a refreshing aperitif style finish, lifted by bubbles, soda and lots of ice.

It feels like a proper drink. Because it is one.

More non alcoholic spritz recipes

Once you've got the base, a non alcoholic spritz is easy to play with. Three of our favourites:

  • Italian style spritz: 50ml Seadrift Orange, 60ml 0% sparkling, 60ml Italian lemon soda. Garnish with a green olive and a lemon wheel for that Venetian bar feel.
  • Rosemary and grapefruit spritz: 50ml Seadrift Orange, 120ml grapefruit soda, a sprig of rosemary. Drier and more herbal, great with salty snacks.

Why make your spritz 0%?

Maybe you're doing Ocsober or a month off. Maybe you're driving, or heading out for an early swim tomorrow. Or perhaps you simply want to be at your absolute best, and feel better drinking a little less. You don't really need a reason.

The best thing about drinking differently now is that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Start with a 0% spritz before a glass of wine with dinner, have one between cocktails, or make the whole evening alcohol free.

It's not about giving something up. It's about keeping the things you love, the ritual, the catch ups, the long lunches and sunset afternoons, while feeling good for everything else you want to do.

So pour it over ice. Add bubbles. Find some sunshine. And make your next spritz 0%.
